Join us on February 6th, 2021.
Please note, we will be monitoring the situation around the Covid-19 virus and taking mitigation steps to help ensure a safe event and venue for everyone involved. We will fully document these protocols once they are established. Keep in mind the structure of the race can change as circumstances change and we will do our best to post that information on our website in a timely manner.
NO ONE should participate if they have signs or
symptoms of Covid 19.
Face covering required for event participation.
This year you must pre register! You must register no later than 5pm on Feb. 5th, 2021! MS/HS and College teams must submit rosters by Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021.
A special thanks to our sponsors on making our event happen! Please give these businesses your appreciation:
Edmunds and Company, Howl Adventure Center, Madeline Island Ferry Line, Super One Foods, Washburn Hardware and Sport, Ann & Donn Christensen, and Doug Liphart & Beth Reed.
If you want to see a little of what it is like, see the video below, created by Dave Doering of SunridgePictures.
For the race in 2021, we have made several changes to keep skiers safe in our current environment. You must preregister for all races, there won’t be any day of registration! Bib pickup will be a drive-up affair. You will not have access to the chalet, your bus or car are your warming spot. All races will be interval start, so with your bib pick-up you will get your exact starting time.
The Middle School race will be a 3.5k freestyle race, main change from last year is the interval starts. First racer will be out at 9:30am.
The High School race will be a 7k classic race, the first racer starting at 10:30am.
The first college racer will go out at 11:30am, to do the 25 km Pursuit Race. The citizen race pursuit skiers will go out after the college racers (we will put enough of a gap, so there shouldn’t be much passing). This will be a world cup style pursuit. This means you will ski the 10 km classic course, come to a transition area (where you will have set out your skating equipment), change gear quickly (the time is running), then head out on the 15 km skate course. Most people that do this style pursuit use combi boots, and just change skis and poles. We don’t care though, if you want to take the time and change boots that is your choice.
The first 15k skate skier will go out at 12:30pm. The 15 km skate race follows the same course as last year, but will have a different course for the decent.
For this year we will not be offering a 10k classic race, or a 1/2k kids race. Sorry, hopefully they will be back again next year.
